Does God Exist?
The oldest question humanity has asked. Here's what Scripture, logic, and creation reveal.

This is one of the most honest questions a person can ask. It takes courage to voice the questions that keep you up at night — the ones you might be afraid to say in church but can’t stop thinking about in the quiet moments. God isn’t threatened by your questions. In fact, the Bible is full of people who asked hard questions of God — Abraham, Moses, David, Job, the prophets, even Jesus on the cross (“My God, why have you forsaken me?”).
This question deserves a thoughtful, honest answer. Not a pat answer designed to shut down conversation, but a real engagement with what Scripture says, what theology teaches, and what human experience reveals.
What the Bible Says
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11
“For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.”
Romans 8:24-25
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”
Hebrews 6:19
“But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Isaiah 40:31
These passages don’t always give the neat, tidy answer we want. But they reveal a God who is big enough to handle our hardest questions and compassionate enough to sit with us in the mystery.
What Theologians and Pastors Have Said
Throughout church history, the greatest Christian thinkers have wrestled with exactly this question. Augustine, Aquinas, C.S. Lewis, Tim Keller, and countless others have spent their lives thinking deeply about God’s character and actions. The consensus isn’t a simple answer — it’s a deeper trust.
C.S. Lewis wrote, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” Sometimes the answer to our hardest questions isn’t found in resolving the tension but in trusting the character of the God who holds both sides of it.
How to Process This Question
- Bring it to God directly — The Psalms model raw, honest conversation with God. Psalm 13 opens with “How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever?” That kind of honesty is not disrespectful — it’s intimate.
- Study broadly — Don’t rely on a single verse or a single teacher. Read multiple perspectives from trusted Christian authors.
- Sit with mystery — Not every question has an answer this side of eternity. And that’s okay. Faith isn’t the absence of questions — it’s trust in the midst of them.
- Look at Jesus — When you’re unsure about God’s character, look at Jesus. He is the perfect revelation of who God is. Whatever your question about God, Jesus is the answer key.

I struggle with anxiety and when I told Abbey how I was feeling, it gave me the most perfect verses. Philippians 4:6-7 on my lock screen got me through panic attacks. This app is a blessing.
